Most Influential Bands/albums to their Genre

Postby Skidm@rk » Sun Dec 28, 2008 12:35 UTC

I was sitting with my 9 yr old twins today and they got guitar hero Legends of Rock for x-mas for their Nintendo Wii and i started to think "who was the most influential band to metal" ( yes i am a devoted death metal head).
I will have to say that in my opinion Slayer would have to be the biggest contributer to metal. I put the headphones on , looked through the collection and Slayer-Reign in Blood in my opinion is THE metal album that started the metal we enjoy today!
This album when it came out in 1986, blew me and the whole metal scene away. The double bass of Dave Lombardo (which at the time was almost non-existent,) the horrific vocals of Tom Araya, the screaming leads of Kerry King, and the masterful songwriting of Jeff Hanneman changed all metal and started (in my opinion) death metal, black metal, and thrash metal!!
So if you think you like metal and have never heard this album, you know nothing!

Reign in Blood is the third studio album and major label debut by the American thrash metal band Slayer. Released in October 1986, the album was the band’s first collaboration with record producer Rick Rubin, whose input helped the band’s sound evolve.

Reign in Blood was very well received by both critics and fans, and was responsible for bringing Slayer to the attention of a mainstream metal audience. Kerrang! magazine described the record as “the heaviest album of all time”, and a breakthrough in thrash metal and Speed metal. According to All Music Guide, this album has influenced the death metal genre.
1 Angel of Death
2 Piece by Piece
3 Necrophobic
4 Altar of Sacrifice
5 Jesus Saves
6 Criminally Insane
7 Reborn
8 Epidemic
9 Postmortem
10 Raining Blood
11 Aggressive Perfector
12 Criminally Insane [Remix]

If you have never heard this album and you like metal then GO GET IT!!!!!!!
Pay homage to the BEST METAL ALBUM OF ALL TIME!!!
And i can almost guarantee that you will have to agree that this album is the best metal album of ALL time!!

If you have a band who you think is the most influential to their genre lets hear it!!

I'd have to say it was "Sunshine and Rainbows" by The Kewpie Dolls. You might have heard the cover by Pat Boone (it's pretty popular on Valentines Day radio playlists), but really -- you have to hear the original to fully appreciate it.

Ah, the memories....

Awesome album there Skid. South Of Heaven is also a killer album. Late 80's to early 90's was the best trash metal album years for me.

Metalchurch - The Dark / Blessing in disguise
Overkill - Taking over / Feel the fire / The Years of decay
Metallica - kill'em All / Ride the lightning / Master of puppets
Megadeth - Peace sells / So Far..So Good
Sacred Reich - Ignorance
Sodom - Persuction mania / Agent orange
Other bands(out of my head): Kreator / Possessed / Nuclear Assault / Sabbat / Bathory / Sepultura / Death / Testament / Exodus / Flotsam & Jetsam / Suicidial Tendencies / Anthrax / MOD / Forbidden / Death Angel

Let's just say that Morbid Angel brought about many bands trying to make the same sounds with their drums, finding it very hard, and relying on triggers to get the effect! Album to start, Altars of Madness...
