There goes the neighbourhood. (again)

Postby DEAN SINSTROM » Sat Oct 15, 2011 22:53 UTC

After a long and completely senseless absence from vogon/q3a and video games in general, I'm back to playing on Vogon! Well, at least I will be soon. I'm picking up a new gaming rig this Tuesday, and am super-looking forward to fragging with you guys again.

One day I installed Q3A on one of my computers at work, and realized how much I've missed vogon! I've had a chance to chat in-game with craij & AG, and even said hi to Kitty a few minutes ago. I've tried playing a bit on my tiny netbook, but a 10" screen just doesn't cut it.

I'll be popping in now and then until Tuesday. Then I'll be back in full force, like the rash on craij's inner thighs that never fully heal.

Lolz. Thanks all. Like I said, all it took was putting quake on a machine at work to make me realize how much I missed vogon! I'll definitely be on every day from now on!

It's great for what I usually use it for. (interwebs, videos etc) but the teeny tiny keyboard is impossible to use. No rail gun for Deano for a few more days!

Damn it, another delay. I was supposed to have the computer picked up from my buddy's work today, but when I called, they said he wasn't in today.
Looks like I'll have to wait at least another day. :( I'll have to kick him in the balls next time I see him.

Well, it should be getting picked up any time now, and hopefully be in my hot litle hands before I leave for home today.
I'm told it's a core 2 duo 2.4ghz, 4gb memory, 500gb hdd and a 512mb video card.

Sweet. Go to hell, NetBook. Never shall you sully the good name of Quake 3 again! rail gun, here I come!

It's an ATI.
I've got it hooked up now, (I'm posting from it as I speak) but I can't seem to get any audio. I'm just trying to get the onboard sound to work, but I can't seem to enable it. In the sound properties it tells me it's trying to use a fancier option, (s/pdif) but I want to use the old skool 1/8" jack.
Gonna poke around in the settings, see what I can get going. Or, maybe I'll install one of the EMU or Audiophile cards I have laying around from my music production days

I know! I had a bunch of generic sound cards, but I think I may have recycled them one day while cleaning up.
Worst case scenario, I'll go buy something tomorrow. But there's gotta be a way to get the on board shit to work. Maybe they didn't physically connect it to the board when they built it. I took a peek in the case, but it looks pretty packed in there. I'll take another peek later tonight.

Is there any way of getting the MB model from windows? Or can I only get that from the MB itself?
Here's what it looks like on the back.:
Image
I would have thought the green plug was a regular output jack...

Are either of those a simple 1/8" output, or are they digital s/pdif outputs? I can see the level meter thing moving when I play an MP3, so I know that the sound is working... maybe I just don't have what I need to decode the signal?

These are the 2 options it shows me in the 'sounds' thing:

You can see that there is an audio signal... I just can't hear it when I plug my speakers into either of the plugs in the back.

Anyway, I think I'll tackle this tomorrow! I'm gonna pack it in for the night, maybe play a few rounds of soundless vogon before I go to bed.
Thanks for the help, unrated. I'll try and get the MB info for you tomorrow.

yea i see..hmm this comp is specificly for hidef sound. hmmmmmm. normaly a 3 port would be standard. this 1 i never came across. SPDIF and HDMI only for SPDIF would be a reciever to decode dunno about the hdmi 1.

but yes open case and onboard it shud have model number and make all that good stuff ..also see on front or back if it has a hp, gateway or compaq model number like 1500c something or 8E1200 something
