Nice, i remember Q2, we played it a lot in 1998, until Q3 was released.

http://www.quakeservers.net/ may also be helpful, it monitors Q1/QW, Q2, Q3 and Q4 servers.

Quake 1 was the last game from id Software where John Romero was involved. He contributed a lot to DOOM 1 and 2 success and general feel, and also Hexen and other games. Quake is great, but at that time team was not in sync that much anymore, especially with all the new members, which inevitably hinders the creative process and brings other problems. After Q1 was finished Romero was "let go" from id Software, and then he started his own game company Ion Storm, which eventually produced Daikatana.

i remember reading quake started out as an rpg and because of time constraints was made into a shooter. its really a cool story, when you see how competitive its got. like the movement. strafe jumping and all the little bugs people figured out to move faster were embraced, tweaked and evolved into cpma and quake live. it really changed online shooters forever.

daikatana was crap, but the two deus ex's were awesome as well as thief. guy definitely has talent.
