Vogon server in Brazil

Postby donkey kong » Thu Dec 08, 2011 00:03 UTC

After a week of testing, finally I would like to officially announce that I am running a server of the best Quake 3 mod that exists, the vogon, right here in Brazil.
I tried to reproduce the server settings hq.vogon.
Players who did not know vogon mod are now playing on our server, from various countries such as Argentina, Chile and of course Brazil.
Now we can play with equal pings to the U.S.! Some play with 30 ping, and already had a player with up to 9 ping!
I would like to thank the friends who helped me, especially dyn for the splendid work with the vogon.
I hope that this server can further disseminate this mod here in South America.
The server ip is 189.1.171.86:27960 for those who want to check it out.

Ahhhhhh, now I can play with less than 100 ping !

Nice! :)

I see there is more and more players from South America, also some of the best programmers and distro maintainers for Linux are from Brazil. I think with strong industry and IT, in cooperation with other countries in that region (one example, UNASUL), well that can bring a lot of power in relatively short time. At same time you have North America destroying its own manufacturing base, and borrowing trillions at same time. Add 1+1, and you may see a "pole shift" happening very soon.

i have only managed to connect to this server once. i keep getting the "mis-typed cd key?" error.

i have tried all sorts of things to get by it. putting cdkey in every mod folder, taking cdkey out of every folder but baseq3, making it read only, that ui_cdkeychecked line.. idk how i got it to work once but i just cant get in.

That's generic error, usually it has nothing to do with CD-key, check console or use "/condump filename" to save scrollback and examine it later for errors.

Do this:
Code: Select all
quake3 +connect 189.1.171.86:27960 +set cl_allowdownload 0

Also, server admin should remove description.pk3 from the mod folder.

Don't worry, it's just a small server :). And please, when you check tell me what you think. Your opinion is important for me.

I'm anxious to kill you - in game (or in my dreams), of course.
