So since Vogon has been on the rampage of learning about people i thought this would be a good topic. What is your career/job. If you find it too personal be vauge.

Examples:

Truth: I am a computer technician for my own computer business. Its actually owned by my dad but i pretty much maintain everything. I do all "In-shop" and "At-home" Business. I do anything from cleaned out nasty naughty viruses to building monster machines to diagnosing blue screens and errors to creating small networks in small business sharing printers/scanners/network files and ext.

Vauge: I a technician.

So im interested in everyone here at Vogon so please share and please be honest. I mean i consider Vogon family and sometimes we just would like to know who we are actually playing against.

Truth: I manage software deployment for a Microsoft "Named OEM" (like HP or Dell) Partner. This includes developing and updating servers/software to automatically deploy operating systems and software products to computers. I also am involved with the relationships of clients' technical staffs (staves?) so that I may better develop our server-side deployment software or work instructions to suit their needs. I am tasked with training members of my deployment team on how to use the existing software and how to improve it to make it more robust.

Vauge: I work in computer software

PS: the "vauge" definition (I feel) is (what you tell people at parties) what you do.

I am retired now (not by choice by health conditions)

Used to own East Coast Audio Video. I did everything from repair electronics like TV's VCR's DVD players and Computers to custom home theater installations BIG ONES with projectors and movie theater seating. I even used to do Video Engineering (editing) for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Thats about it. Retired now.

Mostly Arthritis in my back knees hips ankles, and Dutrins syndrome in my hands (why i only play for short periods of time now). but i recently was in hospital with very bad staph infection. I am now diabetic to. umm COPD and i am on 3 anti Anxiety meds. Sold my half of business and got out. There is more but it is kinda personal.
I still do some stuff here and there for family and friends but i cant work 8 to 16 hour days anymore. (14 to 16 hour days i worked for many years) There is no stopping when you own your own business and work needs to be done.

That's cool AG. I've done webdev for years on my own. I am finally doing it professionally now. Currently I am redoing my company's website in PHP with a CMS type feel (for admins only) but its not live yet and probably won't be for awhile. It sucked when I was unemployed, it didn't matter that I had 8-10 years of web dev experience because it wasn't with a company I worked for. So its good you are doing it for a company!

That's very interesting, i was always interested in Surveillance and Counter Surveillance. Do they bug cars a lot? Corporate espionage?

About bugging homes i agree, but for another reason -- you will rarely hear or see anything interesting. Most people are boring when on their own, and when divorce is on the horizon, level of intelligence lowers even further, usually accompanied by substance abuse and endless arguing about who loves who and what can they expect from each other. After they finally divorce, they start arguing about the money, kids and possessions.

Same goes for PCs and even web servers. Most of the time all you find is either school/college/work documents or travel and birthday photos. Even travel photos are without much imagination, usually people posing in front of something potentially interesting to see, obstructing the view. Browsing history is similar, mostly popular/media web sites with occasional porn, and of course, tons on email "humor", half of it infected with trojans. I also noticed people and hosting companies rarely sanitize HDDs, leaving potentially sensitive data in-place, which can be recovered easily. You don't even need sophisticated software like WinHex, all you need is something simple perhaps Recuva with Deep Scan enabled.

Sorry Dyn, i didnt see what you asked, about the Practical devices to Jam thease systems, they are called
RF Jammers,
Radio Frequency (RF) Jammers are designed to prevent devices that rely on RF to operate. These days, so many devices are wireless, so this would include mobile (cell) phones, walkie talkies, television signals, wireless cameras, bluetooth, wireless networks (WiFi), and many more.
Jammers work by outputting a RF signal at the same frequency expected by the device that’s being jammed, but at a higher power compared to the normal signal. The jamming signal itself is usually random noise or a pure signal. The device being jammed will then receive the higher power signal which is from the jammer, and then the device can no longer function correctly. e.g. a mobile phone will lose reception from the nearest cell mast.

RF Jammers are illegal in pretty much all countries, certainly in most of Europe (particularly the UK), the US. I’m not aware of any licence that makes these devices to use. I’m sure that the government agencies use these sorts of devices for operations, and I would love to know how they do so legally. My guess is that they keep quiet about their usage however.


If you were ever tempted to build your own unit and were very versed in SMT technology, then the Wave Bubble RF Jammer might be of interest to you. Yes, i was thinking about that, or shielding device of some sort, to prevent signal to go out. I guess since jammers can disturb wifi signal, it would be possible to use it to prevent someone from using wifi internet or mobile phones?

Thats what it will do.The first thing I do when I do a scan of the house is to turn off all wireless devices, moble phone, internet, house phones or you get a false positive reading
