Correct. I know slightly less than zero about recording.

yea both really. i have a very strong creative bug and i love music. mixing is an art too though.. knowing which tracks go well with eachother and how to tie them together.

i used to drum in a few metal bands when i was in high school so i have a good sense of rhythm.. think mixing will come naturally. the real appeal for me is the portability of having all that stuff on a laptop. and craij.. i got some audio technica M40s, not quite top of the line but real nice.

ill have to check out that gearslutz place. thx for all the info (:

decent range on the headphones, they'll certainly be good enough to get started.

remember, mix to your ears and don't give a shit what others think. there is a lo-fi movement right now and i guarantee the "big wigs" would advise against it ... but it is cool as shit no matter what they think. so, again, mix to your ears ... that's all that matters.

i do a lot of recording and craij is right — garbage in, garbage out. "fixing it in the mix" is a lazy way of introducing awful habits.

it obviously depends on what you are going for — type of music, sound of the original versus what you are trying to turn it into, but you want it all to be deliberate.

this book is pretty good.
