Easter was hijacked by the Church because people liked their own festivals much more than sad stories about someone nailed to the cross. It was originally fertility festival around March 22nd (Spring Equinox), hence all the eggs and other colorful stuff. It's interesting to see how "primitive" pagans knew more about the astronomy than Christians later, who believed Earth is flat and how Sun revolves around it. Same goes for December 22nd (Winter Solstice) till Dec 25th, when Sun is "reborn".

yeah but not sure about easter monday though. think most people here end it on sunday.
