CTF server - new location [AUG 10 2012]

Postby dyn » Fri Aug 10, 2012 17:20 UTC

Yes, finally i moved CTF from old to new hardware. Old one is still running till AUG 14th, then it will be deleted. Server is now more powerful, ping should remain the same. I think it is even slightly lower.

/connect ctf.vogon.vg
-- OR --
/connect 94.76.224.225:27960

As always, port 27960 is default and you can omit it.

Old ip is 94.76.201.171, server is still running till Aug 14th, for 2 more days. It is the same datacenter, with only difference new server is on more powerful hardware. You can test both, maybe both will experience same type of lag at same time, depends what is causing it. So far i find new server to have 3-4 ms better ping on average.

old: /connect 94.76.201.171
new: /connect 94.76.224.225

Ping outside Q3 is 1ms better :)

Hello.
Lag is getting worse. It's my connection or server problem? Lag is from the Czech Republic and from Austria too.
Take a look at the demo.
Other players complain too.

I set server with some more aggressive optimizations, however this is not real dedicated server so some lag now and then can happen. I would get real dedicated if there was enough support from the players, but this apparently is not possible, even some admins only talk about donating or make silly excuses all the time, which is of course not helping anyone. I will check with host as well, if there is anything they can do but don't expect miracles.

I did test it a bit more, and noticed no lag whatsoever. Now, this was after i restarted the CTF server with more aggressive optimizations, so from our end stuff is optimized with very high priority. Maybe this is why i noticed no lag. There is also a possibility you experienced lag caused by something else on that same server, or around it ie. network.

OK, I understand... Thanks.

Now I played 30 minutes without lag. Restart probably helped. :smilina:

Nice to hear! :) It is even more, i used chrt and ionice to give process more priority for CPU and I/O. It was set before with nice and less aggressive settings. Now, it may sound weird but this also may cause host to give those processes more priority system-wide, not just inside one node.
